PDP my ass
One module of our MBA is called Personal Development Planning (PDP). You’re supposed to select three areas in which you want to develop your personality or a specific skill. Like: presentation skills, networking or self-confident. Well, yea, that sounds great in theory. Who doesn’t want to improve him/herself.
However, in reality this becomes a real pain in the ass. Because we’re assessed mainly by evidence that we have to provide to prove that we really developed our speaking skills instead of just having the usual crap talk with your friends and beers. So, how do you prove that you’re actually become better at talking?
You can ask your colleagues: Hey boss, do you think that I speak better than before? Don’t know! But I have trained for a long time. Hmm, still don’t know. OK, you can’t ask you colleagues. Even if you do, he has to write and sign an evidence letter that you speak better. That’s kind of stupid.
I talked to some of the other MBA guys. What actually happens is that everybody starts to make up evidence. Like most of it. So in the end there is no time left to actually train speaking skills. Ok, thats a bit of a rant but still.
